Debuting as part of the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase, an early teaser trailer has been released for the video game “TMNT: The Last Ronin,” a dark spin on the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” currently in development.
The clip is a concept teaser, and thus doesn’t show off any gameplay from the title. It shows four lit candles, representing the four Ninja Turtles, with the candles going out one-by-one until just one remains. That’s followed by a piece of concept art.
This confirms reports from back in March that a Norse-era “God of War”-inspired third-person single-player action RPG title in on the way based on the 2020 Ninja Turtles comic mini-series “The Last Ronin” – a darker, more mature story that unfolds in a future in which all but one of the Turtles is dead.
In the comic, New York City is now a battle-ravaged wasteland and the lone surviving turtle embarks on a seemingly hopeless mission seeking justice for the family he lost – fighting Shredder’s grandson and his minions with all four turtles’ signature weapons.
The project is in development for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC and has no release date at yet.
The news comes in the wake of the acclaimed and successful “Shredder’s Revenge” and “Cowabunga Collection” game titles released last year, and the acclaimed animated “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” film now in cinemas.
