Travis Kelce Says It Was His Idea to Join Taylor Swift on Eras Tour Stage

Travis Kelce is opening up about how his appearance on Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour stage came to be.

During the season two finale of his New Heights podcast, Kelce revealed details about the surprise moment during Swift’s London concert. While performing at Wembley Stadium, Swift brought her boyfriend out during a performance of “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”

Kelce admitted that he was the one that initially brought up the idea to Swift. “I initially mentioned it to Tay,” he said. “I was like, ‘How funny would it be if I just rolled out on one of the bikes during the 1989 era?’”

He said Swift initially laughed at the idea before asking, “Would you seriously be up for doing something like that?” After quickly responding that he’d “love to do that,” things took off from there.

“I’ve seen the show enough. Might as well put me to work here,” he said. “Sure enough she found the perfect part of the show for me to come in.” During the Tortured Poets Department era in the show, Kelce joined dancers onstage to help bring Swift “back to life” so she could perform “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”

For the performance, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end was dressed in a tuxedo and top hat. He picked up Swift and carried her for her an outfit-change bit. He also powdered her face and tried to hype her up before her performance.

Kelce quipped that there was “no bike in case I ran into somebody else or hit one of the dancers or anything. It was, like, the safest option.” He said he joined during “such a fun and playful part of the show,” and it was an “absolute blast” to be a part of the show.

“It was the perfect time for me to go up there … have some fun not only with her but the crowd and try to get everybody excited for the rest of the show.”

During one moment, Kelce could be seen doing a heel tap dance move, something he said he’s always wanted to do, ever since he saw Jim Carrey do it in Dumb and Dumber. “That’s one of my favorite moves of all time,” he said.

Despite calling it an “honor being onstage” and feeling like “you could do no wrong when Taylor is onstage because she’s the best to do it,” Kelce did admit that he had a “golden rule” for himself while performing.

“The one thing I told myself is, ‘Do not drop the baby.’ Do not drop Taylor on your way over to this damn couch,” he shared.

He also recalled the moment everyone realized it was him actually onstage: “When everyone found out that it was me — because it took a second for everybody to figure it out — that moment was pretty jarring. I was just like, ‘Oh shit.’

“And you don’t realize how big that damn stage is. It is easily as big as a football stadium in terms of length … it’s way bigger than I could have ever imagined,” he added. “But no, it was awesome. And I didn’t disappoint Taylor, so that’s all that really matters.”

As for whether Kelce will make another appearance onstage, he teased that he just might: “Who knows! It might not be the last time. You guys have to keep showing up to the Eras Tour to see if I pop out of the stage!”
