Trevor Noah left The Daily Show, but he had no plans of slowing down.
In fact, within weeks of wrapping his seven-year run last December, he kicked off a still-ongoing, global stand-up tour, which he titled his Off The Record Tour. Now, Noah is making that set available as his latest Netflix special, which will roll out on the service Dec. 19th.
The hour, Where Was I, has Noah sharing his comical experiences from his recent travels, which range from foreign national anthems to varying cultural norms. The David Paul Meyer-directed special was filmed at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, and marks Noah’s fourth for the service. (Earlier entries included I Wish You Would, Son of Patricia and Afraid Of The Dark.) Noah served as executive producer on the series alongside his team, Sanaz Yamin, Bob Bain, Norman Aladjem and Derek Van Pelt.
News of the special comes just a week after Noah debuted another post-Daily Show project, a new Spotify podcast titled What Now? with Trevor Noah. His first guest, The Rock, helped rocket the series to No. 1 on Spotify charts in the U.S. and elsewhere. Guest No. 2 is Kerry Washington, though Noah insists his weekly guest roster will include other genres of newsmakers, from scientists and CEOS to athletes and politicians. “Every single week, it will be a person or a topic that I think will interest people for some reason or another — and it may not always be for the reason you think,” he recently told THR.
It is worth noting that despite the grueling production schedule of The Daily Show, which had Noah tethered to New York City four days a week, he toured throughout his run. In that time, theaters became arenas, and the South African comic solidified his status as one the most successful comics working. In making his surprise Daily Show exit announcement last fall, he explained: “I spent two years [of the pandemic] in my apartment, not on the road, and when I got back out there again, I realized that there’s another part of my life that I want to carry on exploring. I miss learning other languages, I miss going to other countries and putting on shows, I miss being everywhere and doing everything.”
