As Donald Trump gears up for his biggest fundraiser yet on Saturday evening, the Joe Biden campaign announced that it had far outraised its GOP counterpart yet again last month, posting a $90 million haul and extending its war chest lead to nearly $100 million.
The President’s re-election campaign ended March with $192 million on hand compared to $93 million for Trump, who faces skyrocketing bills in his civil and criminal trials. According to a recent analysis from The New York Times, Trump has spent more than $100 million on legal costs since his presidency ended in 2021.
“The money we are raising is historic,” Biden-Harris 2024 campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said of the latest numbers, which the campaign claims are the most a Democratic candidate has ever posted at this point in the election cycle. “It’s a stark contrast to Trump’s cash-strapped operation that is funneling the limited and billionaire-reliant funds it has to pay off his various legal fees.”
The fundraising numbers come just as Trump will host a major Palm Beach gala on Saturday, which he hopes will generate enough donations to surpass the $26 million raised at a glitzy Biden event in New York last month, in which Barack Obama and Bill Clinton joined the president at Radio City Music Hall.
Trump has been paying extremely close attention to who attends the Saturday evening fundraiser, according to The Washington Post, and multiple reports suggest the soiree is expected to raise close to $50 million.
“Our campaign, working together with the RNC, has been steadily ramping up our fundraising efforts, and our March numbers are a testament to the overwhelming support for President Trump by voters all across the spectrum,” said campaign senior advisor Susie Wiles of last month’s fundraising numbers. “Republicans may not be beneficiaries of the self interested largess from Hollywood and Silicon Valley elites, but President Trump is proud to be supported by donations from voters who are the backbone of this nation, which will fuel Republicans up and down the ballot.”
Hedge fund billionaire John Paulson, whom Trump floated last month as a potential Treasury Secretary during a second term, will reportedly host Saturday’s event. CNN reported that other wealthy “co-chairs” include fellow hedge fund billionaire Robert Mercer; oil and gas magnate Harold Hamm; and aerospace entrepreneur Robert Bigelow, who was once a major Ron DeSantis backer.
Three of Trump’s former GOP primary rivals—South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, Vivek Ramaswamy, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum—are slated to attend as “special guests.”
The Biden campaign seized on the list of wealthy donors in its response to the event. “If you want to know who Donald Trump will fight for in a second term, just look at who he is having over for dinner Saturday night – tax cheats, scammers, racists, and extremists,” Biden campaign senior spokesperson Sarafina Chitika said.
