If the Turtle Beach Burst II Air mouse looks familiar, it’s because the Burst line used to belong to Roccat. As of a month ago, Roccat is no more; Turtle Beach acquired the company back in 2019 and while it has taken some time, they have since rebranded all of Roccat’s existing product lines. A couple of years ago, I reviewed Roccat’s Burst Pro Air mouse and was impressed. I was still using it until a couple of weeks ago. But now that I have been using the Turtle Beach Burst II Air mouse, I don’t think I can go back.
Right out of the box, the Burst II Air impresses. This thing is crazy light. Weighing in at just 47g, it offers a high-performance, ultra-lightweight, ergonomic design that feels just right in my hand. At first, I wondered if something needed to be attached because it felt too good to be true. I immediately tested the mouse on my gaming laptop, and connectivity was instant. My laptop recognized it right away, showcasing impressive speed. I appreciated that the mouse didn’t need charging straight out of the box. So right away, fantastic first impressions.
Not to mention, it’s a decent-looking mouse. The Burst II Air I reviewed was black, with the Turtle Beach logo right on the palm of the mouse. It doesn’t feature any RGB lighting or any fancy shell. This is a no-frills mouse designed for someone who wants a top-tier gaming mouse.
The mouse is effortless to move around. The hybrid skate design ensures smooth mouse movements on any surface, and it’s incredibly responsive and easy to maneuver. Even the rubber scroll wheel feels great and works exactly as it should. There is an extra pair of skates included in case you want a wider gliding surface and the stickable grips are a nice little add-on. I threw those grips on the sides of my mouse, which gave the mouse a nice feel.
Going back to a wired mouse will be difficult after using the Burst II Air’s lag-free 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth dual connectivity. You can switch between 2.4GHz for gaming and Bluetooth for working on your laptop. In all instances, the connection was strong, and I didn’t experience any random disconnects as I have with other wireless mice.
The mouse boasts up to 120 hours of battery life, which is fantastic. Additionally, the USB-C rapid charging gives players up to five hours of playtime with just a 10-minute charge. You can also play as you charge with the lightweight and flexible PhantomFlex USB-C cable.
The buttons on the mouse produce satisfying clicks, thanks to the pre-tensioned TITAN Switch Optical that provides a tactile feel with optical speed. The switches are durable, with a 100 million click lifecycle but given the overall build of the mouse, I question whether it can withstand a fall or two on a hard laminate floor. The click itself is a bit loud, though not as loud as some of my other mice, which is great.
Wireless gaming mice cannot afford any input lag issues. Everything needs to be precise, and movements need to be fast. The Burst II Air delivered as advertised. With dynamic accuracy provided by its 26k DPI/650 IPS (16.5m/s) optical sensor, and NVIDIA Reflex compatibility, the mouse is incredibly accurate and responsive. I want my mouse to be precise and speedy; I got exactly that.
The price point, seems right. At the time of writing, the Turtle Beach Burst II Air will cost you around $129 CAD ($99 USD). This is consistent with Turtle Beach’s pricing for similar wireless mice. This is a decent and fair price in my view.
The Turtle Beach Burst II Air delivers a comfortable, fast, and reliable wireless experience. It rivals some of the best mice I have used to date. Rest assured, you won’t be disappointed if you decide to take the plunge and pick one up. Everything from its slick-looking, comfortable ergonomic feel to its exceptional precision, the Burst II Air stands as a sound investment for anyone looking to seriously upgrade their mouse game.
