Usher Reveals Plans For New Drama Series About Black Love In Atlanta

Nobody has had a better weekend than Usher. First, he released his new album, COMING HOME. He then headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show and got married to his longtime love, Jennifer Goicoechea. Now, the crooner has announced his new partnership with UCP, a subsector of Universal Studio Group, for a new drama series that will bring his music to life.

“My 30-year catalog has resonated with so many people no matter where they were in their lives,” Usher said in a statement. “I’m happy to be working with UCP to bring the music to life. I hope the series resonates with you the way my music continues to.”

According to Variety, the untitled drama is about “Black love in Atlanta and individuals looking to find a place to call home.” The series, overall, will “explore music, style, sex, romance, and secrets that threaten to tear relationships apart.”

There is a chance Usher will return to acting and make an appearance on the show, but that has not been confirmed. His on-screen credits include a recurring role on Moesha and leading film roles such as In The Mix and Light It Up.

Amid news of the TV series, Usher shared photos from his intimate wedding. The family affair took place on Super Bowl Sunday. His wife, Jennifer, donned a veil that read “Mrs. Raymond.” The couple exchanged rings as their children—who all wore matching looks— sat in the back of the vintage convertible.

In the caption of the photo set, Usher referenced his new song, “One Of Them Ones,” along with his wedding date.

On the D’Mile-produced record, the 45-year-old father sings of an eternal love: “This right here/ This that s**t that’ll have you all inside of your feelings/ Confessin’ your love for the one/ This right here (Right here)/ Gon’ make you put a ring on it/ Makin’ calls about your feelings/ ’Fessin’ your love for the one/ All because you found one of them ones.”

Usher also recently announced more dates for his upcoming Past Present Future Tour, set to kick off in Atlanta this August.
