Though “El Muerto” has been pulled from the release calendar and its star Bad Bunny is reportedly dropping out, Sony is still aggressively moving forward with its universe of connected Marvel characters (SPUMC) that began with 2018 spin-off “Venom”.
Filming recently got underway on a third “Venom” film which, though it doesn’t have a specific release date yet, is continuing to shoot (potential actor’s strike not withstanding), with Tom Hardy recently having been photographed on the film’s set.
Last we saw of the character in “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” he and Venom were transported to the MCU in the mid-credits scene where the symbiote proceeded to hungrily lick a TV with Tom Holland’s unmasked Spider-Man on it.
Then in the “Spider-Man: No Way Home” mid-credits scene, we see the pair hanging out in a Mexican bar when they are sent back to their universe (a tiny bit of Venom being left behind).
In a photo Hardy shared on Instagram and captioned ‘V3’, the actor is seen roaring at a wolf mural whilst wearing the same shirt Eddie Brock had on when he was jumping between realities. This would suggest that “Venom 3” will pick up immediately after ‘No Way Home’ or boast a flashback to those events.
Hardy will be joined by Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor in the film which Kelly Marcel is directing and scripting. Shooting is now underway in Cartagena, Spain with more to take place in London, England later ahead of an October 2024 release.
