After public queries about ‘kayamata,’ a substance sold for its purported power to enchant men, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) made clear its position on regulating items that make spiritual claims.

This clarification was made in response to concerns raised by concerned individuals regarding the FDA’s regulatory authority over kayamata products following social media influencer Hajia Bintu’s promotion of the product.

This follows reports that on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, Fella Makafui was detained for engaging in illegal activity pertaining to the selling of unlicensed medicines.

In an official response on their X account, the FDA stated, “Per the law, the FDA is not mandated to oversee products that make spiritual claims.”

For educational purposes, Kayan Mata is an an appetizer or sweetener that is a concoction prepared to make a woman become attractive for her husband.

Kayan Mata is a Hausa word coming from Kaya, meaning property, things or stuff and Mata meaning women.

Therefore, it literally means the women properties or women things or women stuff.

Most of the products from Kayan Mata are waist beads, earrings, necklaces, perfumes, soaps and many more.

These products when used by a woman is supposed to hypnotize men into giving the woman whatever she requests. Some women have given testimonies about the potency of these products.
