The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) resumed talks today, and things went well enough that they are set to meet again tomorrow for further discussion according to Deadline.
Today’s session saw numerous major CEOs in attendance including Netflix’s Ted Sarandos, Disney’s Bob Iger, Universal’s Donna Langley and Warner Bros Discovery’s David Zaslav. They joined AMPTP president Carol Lombardini and WGA chief negotiator Ellen Stutzman.
The result, according to the trade, was “incredible progress” and “very encouraging” says their sources, with another suggesting everyone has gotten serious, and apparently things are finally starting to move after a logjam of months.
Having the company leaders directly involved in talks is unusual according to THR, but should speed things up. In addition a source for that trade reports that prior to the meeting, the WGA submitted a list of issues in order of importance from ‘thorniest to least thorny’.
Neither the WGA or the AMPTP have offered any official comments to today’s meeting at this time. At present, there are also no plans for talks between SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP and no plans for dual negotiations.
The writer’s strikes have been running for 142 days so far, whilst the actor’s strike just hit day 69.
