Margarita nights are officially back this Thursday with the launch of Sweet Magnolias’ third season on Netflix. There’s so much that needs to be answered after last season’s numerous cliff-hangers. Will Helen decide to pursue a relationship with Chef Erik, her ex Ryan, or no one at all? And who hates Dana Sue? Also, why did Miss Frances leave her all that money? Can Cal and Maddie work through what happened at Sullivan’s? See, I told you.
The good news is that you’ll get all those answers relatively soon into the season—all episodes drop at once—but new mysteries and conundrums present themselves. You can also expect both returning and new faces (hi, Janet Hubert!), so settle in with your favorite guac and chips, and give thanks that the ladies of Serenity are in our lives again.
This week also—finally!—marks the premiere of Barbie. It’s a true crowd-pleaser and perhaps even an Oscar contender. Issa Rae, who plays President Barbie in the movie, told us it reminds her of classics like Legally Blonde and Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion, and she couldn’t be more accurate. Barbie is fun, fabulous, self-aware, and clever. You’re gonna love it.
In terms of returning shows, And Just Like That… is back with its most insane episode ever (more on that below), and comedy darling Minx jumps from HBO Max to Starz and joins Outlander for an odd but also kind of perfect Friday-night pairing. You can get a refresher on Minx below, or read our interview with Jake Johnson, who nails his performance as a ’70s-era seedy magazine publisher.
The Summer I Turned Pretty drops episode four on Friday night as well, and it offers a bit of a break from the sadness and shock of the first three episodes while still ending on a very emotional and high-stakes note. Meanwhile, you won’t want to miss what Lola Tung (Belly) and Chris Briney (Conrad) had to say about that fireplace scene in episode two, so check out their interview here.
