Skull and Bones promises to give players the seafaring simulator of their dreams, allowing them to become terrifying pirates in an MMO where they can help or hinder other players while they sail. Now the release date is closing in, most fans can’t wait to play it.
Ubisoft’s pirate life game Skull & Bones was announced all the way back in 2017 but has seemed to be in choppy waters multiple times since then. After a couple of delays, a release date of November 8, 2022, was eventually announced, which was then pushed back to March 9, 2023. It now seems that we’ll have to wait a bit longer, as the game has received another delay but it won’t be long until we get to play it.

What is the Release Date of Skull and Bones?
Skull and Bones will be released on February 16, 2024. The game has been in development for almost a decade and has had at least two closed betas in that time. However, we have played both of these betas, and the difference between them is astounding.
The most recent beta showed a massive improvement to the flow of the game, one we could see ourselves investing hundreds of hours in. We’re confident that this latest release date will stick, and Ubisoft won’t delay the game out of 2024.
The first beta we played had a long grind before players got anywhere near owning a ship large enough for combat. It took hours to get there and it wasn’t enjoyable. The second beta is much more satisfying and has a faster introduction that pushes players from the tutorial into the open seas in under an hour, and it feels great.
When Was Skull and Bones Announced?
Skull and Bones was initially announced in 2017, but the game began life as an expansion to Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag in 2013. By the time it was revealed, it had already been in development for four years, and it’s been adding years to that development time ever since.
Ubisoft has delayed Skull and Bones multiple times but has always insisted the game would be released in the future. Provided it’s released in 2024, the game will have been in development for around 11 years since work began when it was still part of the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
