Ziaun Fahruddin Set to Feature Memoir at HKBF, Brings With It an Emotionally Gripping Immigration Story Between South Asia and America

Immigration stories are becoming an increasingly important source of information as well as firsthand accounts about the importance of inclusion and the dynamics of an increasingly globalized world. Hence, it’s no surprise to find them showcased at international book publishing events like the Hong Kong Book Fair. For Ziaun Fahkruddin, it’s a chance to tell the world what such a story is like from the perspective of a Muslim woman going from Bangladesh to America and then the world.

San Diego, CA – WEBWIRE – Monday, May 20, 2024

“One of the best books I’ve ever read! My grandmother is an inspiring woman and this book captures her wonderful story telling abilities. I couldn’t put this book down. I learned new information about my grandmother’s life that blew my mind. Highly recommend this book!” – Maryam S.

The Hong Kong Book Fair has come a long way from its humble beginnings as an event meant to encourage small, local writers. Today, it has grown into an international publishing convention that offers an opportunity for even more first-time authors from all around the world. It has become a prominent book exhibition event that gives their works a chance at a wider readership in Asian markets.

So, for Ziaun Fahkruddin, it is a very fitting event to showcase her immigration memoir. Titled “My Life’s Journey: From Bangladesh to America,” it’s a book where she wholeheartedly describes both the many destinations she had been to in search of stability as well as the rollercoaster of emotions she experienced every step of the way.

She was born and raised in what is today Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. In 1963, she married her husband, and together, they immigrated to America so that he could finish his residency in psychiatry in Massachusetts.

Despite this, their initial hopes of bringing back his credentials to practice in their home country were shattered. This forced them to immigrate somewhere else. First, it was Canada, and then, they finally settled down in Nashville, Tennessee.

Of course, the story hardly ends there. Having come from a family that valued education, Ziaun went on to study at Vanderbilt University and received a Ph.D. in Education in 1981. Along the way, her memoir details the efforts of both her and her husband in building Nashville’s minority Muslim community, confronting discrimination through some of the most difficult, divisive periods in U.S. history.

Visitors to the Hong Kong Book Fair 2024 can find “My Life’s Journey: From Bangladesh to America” when it goes on display at the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet’s exhibit. The book is also available online at Amazon.
