Whether you’re already lighting your autumnal candles or still reveling in summer, like it or not, the best fall jackets (read “the ultimate wardrobe essential”) have started hitting the stores.
Though teddy coats and puffers are still popular (and practical), the prep school trend will continue to reign supreme in 2023 (think tailored trench coats and baggy blazers), Jessica Sockel, stylist for online retailer Stitch Fix, tells Glamour. Maximalism is also having a moment, with saturated shades, rich textures, bold prints, and oversized proportions on the rise. (This season is all about “embracing voluminous silhouettes,” Sockel says.)
Trends aside, the classics aren’t going anywhere, but they are being given a slight update. While you can never go wrong with your go-to black moto jacket, Sockel says warm browns and neutrals, particularly when it comes to suede, shearling, and leather jackets, will be prominent. Plus, wool ponchos and scarf jackets are key outerwear styles to consider.
