Former Destiny’s Child member LaTavia Roberson recently spilled some old-school R&B tea. Additionally, she revealed which Destiny’s Child member Jagged Edge’s song ‘Promise’ was written for.
The 42-year-old shared the story during a radio interview on WGCI.

Roberson sat down for an interview with 107.5’s radio host, KeKe. The on-air personality said, “I did not know that ‘Promise’ by Jagged Edge was written about you.”
“Yes, it was,” Latavia said with a laugh.
“That’s one of the best love songs in the world,” Keke said.
The Houston, Texas native agreed.
The Origin Story of Jagged Edge’s ‘Promise’
“What’s tea?” the host asked.
Roberson recalled an incident in which DC member LeToya Luckett and her mom were allegedly being thrown off of the tour bus. Jagged Edge, which included her then-boyfriend, Brandon, subsequently stood up for them. LaTavia was separated from him after the incident.
“So, we up in the lobby and I’m crying. My mom took my cell phone, and I couldn’t talk to Brandon or anything,” LaTavia explained.
LeToya phoned her grandmother’s house. “Giiiirl!! He wrote a song about you, giiiirl!!” Roberson said enthusiastically, recalling the moment.
The singer admitted, “That was my first love.”
The pair dated for ten years.
Social Media Reacts To LaTavia’s Tea
Under The Shaderoom’s Instagram report about the story, Roommates share their thoughts on the origin of the popular love song.
However, some Roomies couldn’t resist a little jokey-joke.
@mannysolo quipped, “Not true… that song was about and dedicated to my little elementary crush Stephanie. Don’t ruin that for me. Burnt her a CD and everything.”
@heyrobbie added, “He promised he’ll never leave & here he is today, gone.”
Additionally, another Roomie commented on the quality of old-school R&B.
@diamondisfabulous wrote, “Baby, the music from the 90’s is TOP TIER!! Who’d ever thought that era would now be considered the good old days.”
Time does fly, but goodt music is timeless.
