Hulu’s latest psychological thriller series, A Murder at the End of the World, has been gaining much attention after the cliffhanger ending of episode 2. The first two episodes set the stage for a gripping and intriguing murder mystery that is yet to be solved.
The series revolves around Darby Hart, a detective, hacker, and true crime writer, and her investigation of her former partner, Bill’s death. The first two episodes include a lot of flashbacks to explain Bill and Darby’s relationship and why they broke up.
At the end of episode 1, Darby finds Bill dead in his room, while episode 2 focuses on Darby’s investigation and her first lead. The next few episodes will reveal more about Bill’s murder and Ronson’s true intentions.
A Murder at the End of the World E1 Ends with an Unexpected Death
A Murder at the End of the World episode 1 ends with Bill Martin’s death, setting up the central mystery in the series. Episode 1 mainly introduces the characters, builds up the tension, and ends with a shocking death, setting the stage for Darby to take up the investigation.
In the episode, Darby and 8 other guests are invited to a retreat by billionaire Andy Ronson. Upon reaching the location, Darby discovers that her former sleuthing partner, Bill Martin, has also been invited.
Darby also reveals that Bill and she had broken up six years ago, so she naturally seems shocked after seeing Bill after all these years. Later, Bill tries to talk to Darby, but she does not give in.
However, Darby changes her mind after listening to a song that she associates with Bill. She goes to Bill’s room and knocks on the door, only to hear Bill’s distorted voice. She realizes Bill is in danger and runs to the window when she sees him on the ground, unable to keep his eyes open.
In the final moments of episode 1, Bill dies in front of Darby, leaving her confused and shocked. It is evident that Bill was murdered, setting up the stage for Darby’s investigation.
Darby Finds Her First Clue in A Murder at the End of the World E2
In episode 2, Darby becomes suspicious of the circumstances surrounding Bill’s death, although Andy Ronson claims he died because of a drug overdose.
When Darby investigates Bill’s body, she finds syringe marks on his dominant hand. This makes her more suspicious, especially when Ronson’s AI assistant confirms that drug users usually inject in their non-dominant hand.
Later, Ronson’s wife, Lee, also visits Bill’s room. She tells Darby that she, too, was suspicious of Bill’s death and that Andy hardly took it seriously. Interestingly, Lee urges Darby to investigate further into it to find out Bill’s murderer. She even suggests that she hack into the room’s doorbell camera to get more clues.
The ending of episode 2 of A Murder at the End of the World does not confirm the identity of Bill’s killer. However, Darby gets her first major clue after hacking into the doorbell camera of Bill’s room.

Darby sees that both Daniel and Ziba were walking around Bill’s room a few moments before his death. She also sees a masked man in the footage, who visited Bill moments before his death.
The ending of episode 2 hints that the masked mystery man is Bill’s murderer, although it does not explicitly confirm it. The masked man could be the one who killed Bill, but it could also be someone else. The next few episodes will reveal more about the murder as Darby begins her investigation.
