Sometimes you place a bet based on feel, your handicapping or off of a tip from a well-educated source.
Other times, it’s because you sent out a fairly innocuous tweet, a bunch of people piled on and you felt the need to be a man of your word.
Sound oddly specific? Well, that’s because one user on X sent out a tweet on Monday that he would bet $5 on Carl Yuan (100-1 at BetMGM sportsbooks) to win the Mexico Open for every like that his post received.
Not thinking he’d get quick a big response, he instead ending up with 1,315 likes, which equated to $6,575 in potential wagers.
The bettor detailed how he had to place many bets to get to that number, which included visits to multiple casinos in the Poconos in New York and many kiosk wagers.
For every like this tweet gets in the next 24 hours I will bet $5 on Carl Yuan to win the Mexico Open.

You know you’ve reached the nut low in life when you find yourself waiting for a sports book to open at some casino in the middle of nowhere just to get some Carl Yuan action in. pic.twitter.com/hO6kbtPZWg

He also got down on Yuan to finish top six, top 10, top 20 and be the final round leader. In all, he wagered $6,575 to win over $524,000.
Now, all he needs is Yuan to win his first PGA Tour event.
