Anger has erupted over the Secret Service reportedly asking former President Donald Trump to hold rallies indoors over concerns of future assassination attempts.
Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned her position on Tuesday morning after being grilled by lawmakers during an intense House hearing on the Trump assassination attempt, which occurred at an outdoor rally on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Later on Tuesday, The Washington Post reported that the Security Service had previously “communicated their concerns about large outdoor rallies going forward to Trump campaign advisers,” citing “three people familiar with the matter.”
The news outlet also reported that the Trump campaign had apparently agreed to the request and was scouting large indoor venues for future rallies, while “not currently planning any large outdoor events.”

Republican House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer responded to the report during a Tuesday night interview on Fox News, saying that “it would be a shame” if outdoor Trump rallies were off the table.
“I think people enjoy going to them and I think, you know, you can get more people outdoors than indoors,” Comer said. “He attracts a big crowd, obviously. I think the president will do what the president wants to do.”
News of the reported Secret Service request also immediately sparked outrage from supporters of Trump’s MAGA movement on X, formerly Twitter.
“This is unreal,” pro-Trump account “End Wokeness” wrote. “Secret Service is now asking the Trump campaign to stop doing outdoor rallies. How about you do your f*ing jobs?”

“Secret Service now encouraging Trump to stop doing outdoor rallies,” wrote MAGA influencer Rogan “DC Draino” O’Handley. “This isn’t about his safety … It’s b/c the Biden regime wants him to stop holding giant rallies that show his popularity … And now they’re kind of threatening him … ‘Don’t have huge rallies … or you might get hurt.'”

Newsweek reached out for comment to the Trump campaign via email on Tuesday night.
The assassination attempt resulted in the death of one rally spectator and serious injuries to two others. Trump’s right ear was grazed by a bullet from shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was killed by a counter-sniper seconds into the attack.
Trump and running mate Senator JD Vance held their first joint rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Saturday. The event, which was also Trump’s first campaign rally since the assassination attempt, was held indoors.
