Feb. 6 (UPI) — The Houston Astros signed star second baseman Jose Altuve to a five-year contract extension, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.
Sources told ESPN, MLB.com and the Houston Chronicle that the deal, which runs through the 2029 season, is worth $125 million.
Altuve, 33, hit .311 with 17 home runs, 51 RBIs and 14 stolen bases in 90 games last season. The 5-foot-6 infielder hit .307 with 209 home runs and 293 steals over his first 13 seasons.
The eight-time All-Star, three-time batting champion and 2017 American League MVP won World Series titles with the Astros in 2017 and 2022.
Altuve made his debut with the Astros in 2011. His 2,047 hits are the third-most in franchise history. He is the Astros’ all-time leader in batting average.
Astros pitchers and catchers will report for spring training on Feb. 14 in West Palm Beach, Fla.
