Iran reportedly sent a message to Israel on Saturday stating that the nation does not have an interest in further escalation in the war currently being waged by Israel against Hamas after an October 7 massacre by Hamas, and that intervention will be necessary should it continue.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told United Nations envoy to the Middle East Tor Wennesland at a meeting in Beirut, Lebanon on Saturday that while the nation does not want to see the ongoing Hamas-Israel war escalate further, the Islamic Republic very well may take action, especially if Israel launches a ground offensive in Gaza, according to sources.
The meeting was confirmed by Wennesland’s office on Saturday, which said the pair discussed “diplomatic efforts to release hostages, de-escalate and prevent a spillover of the conflict to the wider region.”
After previously meeting with Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Amir-Abdollahian reportedly said during a press briefing that Israel must “stop the crimes against civilians in Gaza — because it might be too late in few hours.”
A reported total of 1,300 Israelis and 2,200 Palestinians have been killed since the Hamas’ surprise attack against Israel on Oct. 7.
The nation of Israel announced that it is in a state of war, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promising that the “enemy will pay an unprecedented price.”
“The State of Israel will win this war.”
