Every year, the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon is not only a very famous event on the race calendar, but also a leaden race. In the race covering 2.2 kilometers of swimming, 120 kilometers of cycling (including 3,200 altimeters and an ascent of the Alpe d’Huez) and 19 kilometers of running (including over 400 more altimeters), Clément Grandy proved the strongest. Among the women, no one could come close to an unleashed Alanis Siffert.
In the men’s race, the battle was pretty close; Grandy owed the victory mainly to a strong bike part. He eventually finished in a time of 5:45:41. The Frenchman thus stayed ahead of his compatriot Louis Richard, who finished second after 5:47:32. Spaniard Jordi Montraveta finished third in 5:49:57.
Alanis Siffert won the women’s race in a time of 6:20:31. She showed supremacy on the tough course, as she left all competition far behind. Runner-up Svenja Thoes finished in 6:46:59 and Petra Eggenschwiler, who came in third, finished in 6:47:19. While the battle for victory thus quickly proved clear, the one for silver and bronze was particularly exciting.
