Coachella tickets are still available five days after going on sale, making for the slowest sales for the festival in a decade.
Tickets for the 2024 edition of Coachella went on sale beginning Friday, January 19 — and there are still tickets available for the festival five days later, for the first time in 10 years.
Between 2014 and 2022, Coachella tickets sold out within anywhere from 40 minutes (2015) to four hours (2022). Notably, 2023 had slowed a bit, with tickets to Coachella’s first weekend (generally the bigger draw of the two) taking days to sell.
This year has been even slower. By Tuesday, January 23, ticket sales had fallen behind the somewhat sluggish rate of the previous year. Tickets for the festival’s first weekend are still available at the second of three price tiers.
In an effort to combat slow sales, the Coachella website is allowing people to purchase up to eight tickets. Previously the festival only allowed two tickets purchased together in years past — practically begging music fans to scoop them up.
It’s possible that fans feel underwhelmed by this year’s lineup, featuring headliners Doja Cat, Tyler The Creator, Lana Del Rey, and a No Doubt reunion. Last year, the promise of a rare Frank Ocean appearance (which ultimately didn’t work out) wasn’t even enough to draw enthusiasm. But the lack of a lineup hype doesn’t necessarily spell disaster for a festival’s ticket sales.
Despite its position as one of the biggest must-see annual music festivals, Coachella may have its work cut out for it in 2024. This year, Las Vegas’ Lovers & Friends festival boasts a lineup including Backstreet Boys, Janet Jackson, Usher, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, and Alicia Keys, while New Orleans’ Jazz & Heritage Festival will feature artists like Queen Latifah, Foo Fighters, Hozier, and Earth, Wind & Fire.
Ultimately, only time will tell if Coachella tickets sell out by the time the show kicks off in April.
