Whisper Me A Love Song, a popular manga series, finally received its long-awaited anime adaptation after many trials and tribulations. The series’ dedicated fanbase had high expectations for the anime. However, the adaptation did not meet these expectations.
A staff member working directly on the anime, a supposedly reliable source, has revealed the behind the scenes of the anime production and some disturbing things have come to light. From problematic working conditions and miscommunication among the staff to Yokohama Animation Laboratory and Cloud Hearts‘ less-than-stellar conduct, a lot has happened behind the scenes of the long-awaited anime adaptation of Whisper Me a Love Song.
Problems Regard the Initial Release

People who have been waiting for the anime adaptation of Whisper Me a Love Song know how hard the journey from announcing the adaptation to its actual release has been. The months prior to the anime’s actual release were filled with misinformation and false rumors.
After many requests from the fandom, in January 2023, we finally got the key visual and the staff information for the anime. Many people were skeptical about Yokohama Animation Laboratory handling the production, but they did a good job with Lapis Re: LIGHTS. However, Whisper Me a Love Song reached nowhere near that production quality standard, upsetting many.

The promotional video for the anime was only twenty seconds long, but the definitive release date placated the fans. Scheduled to release in January 2024, no other information about the anime was released for a long time. A proper trailer was supposed to be released in August 2023, but it didn’t. Moreover, rumors about the staff being sick started spreading around October, causing further delays and disruptions in the production process.
November saw many drastic changes. On November 10, 2023, the anime premiere was delayed from January to April 2024 due to various circumstances. Also, Akira Mano replaced the director, Cai Xinya, due to health reasons, and the additional staff and the first PV were released.

What Is The Issue With The Production?
Disclaimer: All the staff members, especially the animators, are working hard under challenging circumstances. They are often under immense pressure to meet tight deadlines and deal with miscommunication issues. Respect their work and the challenges they face in bringing this anime to life.
The animation of Whisper Me a Love Song failed to meet the fandom’s expectations, with many clips from the anime criticizing the animation going viral online. These ‘animation blunders’ include inconsistent character designs, poor frame rates, and noticeable errors in the animation, all of which have significantly detracted from the overall viewing experience and the audience’s perception of the anime.
No offense to anyone still enjoying it but SasaKoi barely shows signs of holding itself together. So many visual discrepancies are a clear sign of poorly handled animation work. Even the live band segments and music don’t necessarily mesh together well.pic.twitter.com/nS8HUSgEZS

The reason behind all the animation blunders is because of miscommunication and timing differences. A team of 2-4 people was working on the scene on different schedules, on a time crunch, and with no chance of communication. Additionally, all episodes are finished barely 48-72 hours before the release, which is a problem.
Less Than Stellar Working Environment
Not just the tight schedule but also miscrediting and differences in the production level of all the episodes are the product of a bad working environment. Every episode is produced by a different studio outsourced by the animation studio. The external studios are relatively smaller and work based on little to nothing, resulting in all the discrepancies.
This has led to a significant drop in the overall quality of the anime, with each episode feeling disjointed and inconsistent.
Low Quality Animation
The reason so many miscreditings are happening, why every episode has a different production level, and why so many individual mistakes are happening is that every episode is handled by a different studio.
All the staff consider every new episode release a miracle. Nearly the entirety of the Yokohama Animation Laboratory’s team has left the project because of all these issues. The CEO has been trying their best not to cause any delays, but that has only backfired. After the release of the third episode, every episode has had a different studio working on it, and they are yet to be credited.
If you thought the working conditions of Jujutsu Kaisen animators were bad, you are in for a terrible surprise. The staff members are being miscredited despite working overtime and having to sleep in their office. There is a fine line between criticizing and insulting something. A gentle reminder to keep the working conditions of everyone working on Whisper Me a Love Song in mind and be respectful while engaging in discussion. Constructive criticism can help improve the situation, but disrespectful comments only add to the problem.
