‘Dragon Ball Daima’ Anime Announced for Fall 2024

The Dragon Ball special panel at the New York Comic Con announced a new anime titled Dragon Ball Daima on Thursday, slated for a Fall 2024 debut. Toei Animation also posted a teaser trailer.

Original creator Akira Toriyama is credited for the original work, story, and character design. Commemorating the original manga’s 40th anniversary, Dragon Ball Daima is the first new anime series in six years since Dragon Ball Super ended in 2018.

Following the announcement, a comment from Toriyama appeared on screen:

“‘Daima’ is a made-up term… in English it would be something like ‘Evil.’ Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things, they’ll head off to a new world! It’s a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious new world. Since Goku has to make up for his petite size, he uses his Nyoibo (Power Pole) to fight, something not seen in a long time.

I came up with the story and settings, as well as a lot of the designs. I’m actually putting a lot more into this than usual. Things will unfold that close in on the mysteries of the Dragon Ball world. Hope you all enjoy these different-from-usual battles that are cute and powerful!”

Dragon Ball Super aired in 131 episodes from Summer 2015 to Spring 2018. The Dragon Ball Super: Broly, premiered in Japan in December 2018. The Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero sequel movie opened in theaters in June 2022, grossing over 2.51 billion yen (approximately US$92.1 million) worldwide.

Toriyama and Toyotarou began serializing the Dragon Ball Super manga in V-Jump magazine in June 2015. Shueisha shipped the 21st volume on August 4. VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in North America and published the 19th volume on September 5.
