Fairly big but really well put together: The Acer Nitro 17 review
Following on from its well-intentioned predecessor, Acer has built an almost perfect gaming laptop with the RTX 4060 at its heart. In particular, the quiet fan mode is greatly improved. And, that aside, we can’t find much cause for criticism.

We have reviewed the Acer Nitro 17 with an Intel Core i7-13700H and the RTX 4060 and it has managed to incorporate all of the positive aspects found in its predecessor, the Acer Nitro 5 (yes, the naming seems inconsistent). At the same time, most of the points of criticism have disappeared.
The Nitro 5 already had a quiet mode and, in terms of gaming, it didn’t bring any real limitations to the table. With the Nitro 17, in synthetic benchmarks and sometimes when gaming, we even recorded better results than in “Performance mode”, although the permitted power supply is 55 W below the maximum possible limit.
The fans operate discretely in the background and are not in the slightest bit annoying. However, despite the large cooling and generous space inside the case, heat production is considerable. Nevertheless, Acer has provided a thoroughly practical selection of options and has optimized the interaction between powerful components and effective cooling. That doesn’t quite help the laptop reach first place in our table, but it does manage quiet and sometimes silent gaming.
Nitro 17 and Nitro 5 (rear): Externally the differences are minimal.
In addition to the impressive system performance, the other specs are well implemented and give us almost no cause for complaint. While the predecessor’s display had dreadful color reproduction and very poor brightness, the QHD panel presented here, with its wide color spectrum and 350 cd/m², is ideal for playing games. Only the contrast has room for improvement. The port selection has also improved. An additional USB-C port and a card slot (unfortunately only microSD) have been added.
The Acer Nitro continues to be absolutely huge and very heavy. Not many models are thicker, wider or deeper. The weight has also managed to exceed the 3 kg mark together with a 1.2 kg PSU. Of course, this level of impressively quiet cooling and gaming performance could hardly be achieved without significant compromises.
Our extensive review of the Acer Nitro 17 AN17-51-7ER explains what else we liked, which performance limitations were implemented and where there is still room for improvement.

I’ve been using computers since 1989 and an Intel 8086. I also remember the Internet before college and university networks were supplanted by corporate and social media. The fascination for the technical leaps and social effects never let me go. In particular, I am most interested in the classic PC – and hardly less so in the laptop, in which the components have to come to terms with little space and power. So it seems only logical that I have been writing technical guides and product presentations since 2015. My physics studies provide the necessary basic knowledge and understanding of contexts.
