Georgiana Chung’s Reflective Poems on New York Daily Life Exhibited at the Hong Kong Book Fair 2023

As one of the largest publishing expos in Asia, the Hong Kong Book Fair is a literary gateway where readers can deep-dive into the experiences of authors from around the world. A great example was Georgiana Chung’s “An Appreciation of Prophecy,” a collection of poems born from her daily commutes in the New York Subway. Turning casual observations into reflective verses, it’s a work that she hoped will inspire many more to take up the pen.

San Diego, California, USA – WEBWIRE – Tuesday, January 23, 2024

“In this book is a prayer for all those who wish to write. Your story may be different, but someone out there may want to read it.”

Many remember this year’s Hong Kong Book Fair as a massive commemoration for children’s literature and young adult fiction. Furthermore, it was a large-scale event that showed visitors that the path to authorship is open to people from all walks of life.

One example is Georgiana Chung, a native Jamaican who immigrated to London, where she finished high school and college. This was then followed by another immigration journey to the United States, where she became a corporate finance paralegal.

Yet, even as she moved onward and upwards, she came to a point where poetry entered her life. It started one day as she rode the New York Subway on her usual commute to work. This was followed by another poem written on the same routine and then another.

Eventually, all these entries found their way into a collection she finally published titled “An Appreciation of Prophecy.” With the help of ReadersMagnet (a self-publishing and book marketing firm), she found a way to exhibit her book during the Hong Kong Book Fair 2023.

Needless to say, Chung is proud to have taken her book so far. More importantly, she did it all for the simple wish that reading it might encourage a reader to write their own story. It wouldn’t even matter if their story was told in other ways besides poetry or even if the contents themselves are far different from hers. The important thing is that somewhere, out there, a person would like to read it (just as her story was read during the Hong Kong Book Fair 2023).
