German tennis legend Boris Becker is in the headlines once again as he joined forces with top-seeded Danish star Holger Rune after his split with the French coach Patrick Mouratoglou. Becker walked away from professional tennis in 1999. After that, he continued to stay in touch with the sport as a commentator. Later, he also started working as a coach and had a very successful stint with the 24-time Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic.

He coached the Djoker for around 3 seasons from the end of 2013 to the year 2016, helping the Serb win six Grand Slam titles. And now he would be hoping to do the same for Rune. Recently, in an interview, he made a very bold statement about Carlos Alcaraz.

The six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker recently sat down for an interview with Eurosport. During the interview, he was asked if Carlos Alcaraz would make it as big as the Big 3 which includes Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal.
Boris Becker says it’s misleading to think Carlos Alcaraz can surpass 20 Grand Slam titles:

To which he responded, “That’s not fair. You have to let Carlos be Carlos. Give him the time to develop. So that he doesn’t lose his interest in sports because we still need him for a few years. It is illusory to think that Carlos could make it beyond 20 Grand Slam titles. That didn’t happen before the era of the Big 3, and I am convinced that three players will never again win over 20 Grand Slam competitions at the same time.”

According to Becker, it is not possible for any 3 players to compete with the Big 3, including Alcaraz. He feels that everyone should let him be and not draw comparisons because there is no way anyone can redo what the Big 3 have done.
Both Holger Rune and Carlos Alcaraz were supposed to be at the ATP 500 Tournament in Basel this week, but the latter pulled out due to an injury.

A few days back, Alcaraz posted on his official Twitter handle that he will not be able to play in Basel this year. He mentioned that he has an issue with his left foot and also talked about having a problem with fatigue in the muscles of his lower back.
