ICYMI Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Australia’ is a now full on TV series

It’s like the Snyder Cut, but ‘Australia’.

If you woke up this morning and thought, damn, I wish Baz Luhrmann’s 2008 film Australia, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, was a TV series, in a shocking twist of fate, your desires have been granted.

Coming to Hulu, Faraway Downs takes the director’s two-hour, 45-minute film and stretches it into a six-part series. Essentially, Lurhmann had so much footage on the cutting room floor, there was enough for a very lengthy story. It’s like the Snyder Cut, but for the movie Australia.

Set in Australia’s Northern Territory during World War II, before and including the bombing of the city of Darwin on Feb. 19, 1942, the series will reunite you with uppity English aristocrat Lady Sarah Ashley (Kidman) and the pastoral hunk and cattle drover literally named Drover (Jackman). While they’re trying to resurrect Lady Sarah’s husband’s barren cattle ranch amid all her love of “bew-tee-ful keng-ah-rews!”, the sparks fly.

Faraway Downs is coming to Hulu on Nov. 26.
