J. Cole is finishing off his active year with a bang by adding onto his already long list of accolades. The North Carolina-raised rapper earned 27 new RIAA certifications on Tuesday (Nov. 21) with six new Gold plaques and the rest Platinum. The new batch encompasses songs from all over his catalogue, including fan-favorites from KOD and The Off Season.
Most notably, his smash hit “MIDDLE CHILD” is currently 9x Platinum, making it just one million units shy of achieving Diamond status. The triumphant track first made landfall on Jan. 23, 2019, then appeared on Dreamville’s Revenge of the Dreamers III compilation that July.
Additional highlights include 4 Your Eyez Only going 2x Platinum, 2014’s Forest Hills Drive going 5x Platinum, and loosies like “Snow On Tha Bluff” and “Album Of The Year (Freestyle)” going Gold.
In related news, Cole World recently locked in another first-time achievement after his recent collaboration with Drake, “First Person Shooter,” landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The two rappers have been close-knit this year, as they also shared the spotlight at Dreamville Festival in April and linked up once again on wax for “Evil Ways” on Scary Hours 3 last week.
The two lyricists will hit plenty more stages together in 2024 on their joint Big As The What? Tour, which is an extension of Drizzy’s It’s All A Blur Tour. The trek kicks off on Jan. 18 at the Ball Arena in Denver, CO, with two back-to-back shows. The “Jodeci” duo will then hit cities across the States, including New Orleans, Memphis, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Buffalo.
The forthcoming tour purposely is not hitting many of the typical go-to concert markets, as it is “not a major city run” according to Ibrahim, J. Cole’s longtime manager. “The run is for the secondary market we don’t get to go to as much and do shows like how we use to,” he explained on X.
