Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is reportedly covering the funeral expenses for a high school football player in Texas who was shot dead over the weekend.
Jarvon Coles, who played at North Shore High School in the Houston area, was killed at a party in a suspected drive-by shooting on Saturday night.

Hurts, who played at rival Channelview High School, is paying for the funeral, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
Officers responding to a call about underage drinking at a short-term rental property in Humble, Texas discovered Coles in the backyard, with a gunshot wound in his chest, according to KHOU.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez told the outlet that a shooter or multiple shooters “intentionally shot” toward the house party from a vehicle a block away.
About 50-60 people were at the party, the report said.
Braxton Coles, the grandfather and guardian of the victim, told KHOU that his grandson had a 4.1 GPA and been accepted to 15 different colleges, and was planning to play football at Lamar University after a recent visit.

In the last time the two saw each other, Jarvon Coles told his grandfather that he was going to “hang out with a couple of buddies.”
“Parents, please keep your kids close. No matter how hard you try, you can’t save them,” the grandfather told the outlet, in a message to other parents.

“Jarvon was a great human being, he was a great person, always had a smile on his face, never see him getting into anything bad, or having any type of conflict with anyone,” Coles’ former football teammate, DaMeko Williams, said.
Kyle Herridge, an assistant offensive line coach at North Shore, posted a tribute to Coles on X.
“You cannot measure the impact he had on and off the field in our program,” Herridge tweeted.

“Truly an incredible human being. Prayers needed for his family, our student athletes, our staff and the entire North Shore community. Rest easy Jarvon Coles.”
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is seeking any information that could lead to accountability for Coles’ death.
