Linda Perry Opens Up About Self-Abuse, Nonstop Hustle in ‘Let It Die Here’ Trailer

Christina Aguilera, Dolly Parton, and Brandi Carlile make appearances in the Tribeca Film Festival documentary about the 4 Non Blondes’ musician and hitmaker’s life

Linda Perry is ready to share an inside look at her far-from-ideal journey.

On Thursday, Mercury Films released the official trailer for Linda Perry: Let It Die Here, a documentary about the 4 Non Blondes’ singer and hitmaker for others, including Christina Aguilera and Pink. The film traverses her life and journey, featuring interviews with Dolly Parton, Aguilera, and Brandi Carlile. It’s set to premiere at the Tribeca Festival this year.

“It’s pretty amazing I turned out the way I did. Everything else was running against me,” she says in the trailer, before discussing how she grew up being abused as a child and how she now causes herself self-abuse because of it. “I live in stress, high anxiety. It’s like I validate myself by working, working, and working… If I have one day off, I beat myself up.”

Perry said in a press release that she was “a little scared” and also proud of how revealing she was in the documentary, directed by Dan Hardy.

“It gave me some clarity, because I was able to separate myself from the character on the screen and feel empathy for her,” she said. “As much as I love being creative, I will admit that it’s also incredibly taxing at times. I don’t know how to make music without bringing my deepest emotions into it, and doing that can leave me feeling raw, exposed, and vulnerable. But, that is the tradeoff.”

“In a way, all artists — who are doing it honestly, anyway — are sacrificing themselves to their art,” she added. “This is what Let It Die Here is about.”

The film is set to feature appearances from some of her closest collaborators and some friends, including Dolly Parton, Christina Aguilera, Kate Hudson, Sara Gilbert, and Brandi Carlile.

“Linda is one of the most iconic and original artists of our time, and I feel incredibly honored to have been let into her private world over the past couple of years,” added Hardy. “It was a tumultuous time for Linda, and bearing witness to her struggles and triumphs through it all made a profound impact on all of us involved. Now we look forward to welcoming audiences into her world, too.”
