Fans have all watched Lola Brooke’s journey from going viral for her song “Don’t Play Wit It,” to getting nominated for BET’s 2023 Best Breakthrough Artist — and everything in between.
Now, the Brooklyn star has released her debut album Dennis Daughter and its third single and music video, “Don’t Get Me Started” featuring Coi Leray and Nija.
The Jersey-club inspired track received video treatment from director Ben Mark, showing Lola, Coi and singer/songwriter Nija taking over the streets of Downtown Newark, NJ and Times Square. The high-energy visual sees bikers and club-dancers matching the mood of the tune, as they hit signature Jersey moves like the “running man,” “rock ya hips” and “sexy walk.”
Lola raps: “Please don’t get me started/ Been a fly bi**h before the clipper had just departed/ Did it all in one wife-beater, it’s different garments/ I want parts of my opps too, so we split the target,” as she sports a Moto-look with Coi in front of a Corvette.
Leray comes in with: “I’m really it, no tag/ I told these bi**hes don’t mention my name in none of they raps/ Treat your block like a turntable, yeah, we spinnin’ it back/ We in New Jersey, we in New York, yeah, run that sh*t back.”
The writer responsible for some of Beyoncé’s biggest hits also makes a cameo in her home state as she dances along and sings the hook: “Shake it fast, dump it low/ Make her spin and throw them Os/ Green light, go, I get it up, green light, go.”
“Don’t Get Me Started” hails from Lola’s first LP under Arista Records which also boasts “Don’t Play Wit It,” “You” featuring Bryson Tiller and more.
