“I’d had a lousy day at work,” the player said. “And there, right in front of me on my way home, was a Royal Farms. I figured that a Lottery ticket might change my mood.”

The man bought a ticket with two sets of quick pick numbers with Power Play for Jan. 22 drawing, and checked the results online the day after the drawing.

“‘That’s my ticket,’ I said to myself, ‘except for one number,'” the man recalled.

The player called for his wife, who said she was concerned by the tone of his voice.

“I thought something was wrong,” she said.

The players spent several minutes trying to analyze the results.

“We went back and forth as to whether it was a winner,” the man said.

The couple ended up using the Maryland Lottery app to scan the ticket and confirm the $100,000 prize.

The husband and wife, who are both nearing retirement, said the winnings will allow them to pay off their family debt.
