Meta Platforms Inc. is planning to build an $800-million data center campus in Jeffersonville, Ind. The tech firm, which is the parent company of major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, selected Turner Construction Co. to build the center, the companies recently announced.
The center is planned to include multiple buildings totaling about 700,000 sq ft. Turner said in a statement that it plans to use prefabricated modular assemblies for the project. Meta says it has arranged for 100% renewable energy to power the site once it is complete, and plans to seek LEED Gold certification.
Turner anticipates more than 1,250 construction workers being on site at peak, according to Dan Harmon, vice president and general manager at Turner.
Work is scheduled to complete in 2026.
The data center is being built on a 619-acre parcel at River Ridge Commerce Center, a 6,000-acre office and industrial park being developed at the site of a former U.S. Army ammunition plant. The center has spent more than $130 million on infrastructure projects to prepare the site for businesses.
This would be Meta’s 18th U.S. data center and its 22nd overall. Turner was also the general contractor for Meta’s data center project in Altoona, Iowa, according to the tech company.
