Mitsubishi currently sells two Renaults under its brand name and with their model names. In any case, this gives the Japanese brand considerably higher registration figures, but neither the ASX nor the Colt come close to the Renaults in terms of numbers.
Mitsubishi says it is currently in a kind of interim phase, awaiting new, more proprietary models. That intermediate phase is largely bridged with two Renaults that have been Mitsubishi’d. In 2022, we were introduced to the new Mitsubishi ASX, essentially a Renault Captur, followed by the Renault Clio, transformed into a Mitsubishi Colt, in 2023. The Colt has now completed its first full sales quarter. Let’s take a look at what the current status of the special pair is in terms of registrations.

What is initially striking is that the older Mitsubishi ASX not only does better than the Colt in absolute numbers but also in comparison with the Renault Captur. In the past month, the ASX achieved more than 40 percent of the number of registrations for Captur. Over the entire quarter, that is about 37 percent. That is a much better performance than last year in Q1, also in absolute numbers, but the ASX was also not yet available in all of Q1 2023.
As mentioned, the fresher Mitsubishi Colt is still lagging. Although slightly more were registered than the ASX in the first quarter, in March there were fewer, and the difference is especially large compared to the Renault Clio. For the time being, the Mitsubishi Colt has approximately a quarter of the numbers of the Renault Clio. And while the Colt (at least on paper) sometimes offers a more financially attractive story because it is available with a cheaper power source and equipment, for example,. In practice, however, it does not attract huge groups of people to the showroom.
