As the physical and digital worlds continue to interact and integrate into a ‘phygital’ world, Web3 will play a significant role, starting with the future of experience, says nChain CIO Christine Leong.
Leong and the nChain team were part of the inaugural ComplexCon Hong Kong, ComplexCon’s first event in Asia. Over 30,000 people attended the three-day event at the AsiaWorld Expo to experience music, food, fashion, art and more.
nChain was the event’s official technology partner and developed the mobile app attendees used to access the event. The app enabled users to scan their tickets for a digital collectible and access perks such as exclusive merchandise. It also provided push notifications on the various exciting presentations and new product drops.
While non-fungible tokens (NFTs) made a big splash two years ago and JPEGs went for tens of millions, their appeal has slowly ebbed away as users demand utility. Leong believes that the best approach is to introduce NFTs to users organically and weave them into a packaged digital experience, as the app did with its digital collectible tickets.
“[The ticket token] is stored on the blockchain and is like any other digital collectible, but people might not even know it…We want to enable the future of experience,” she told CoinGeek Backstage reporter Claire Celdran.
“We don’t want to say what the technology is; we want people to use it and feel its value to them.”
ComplexCon Hong Kong attracts a young, tech-savvy crowd, making it the perfect event to debut the app. Leong revealed that most attendees were happy to share feedback with her team, which will help it improve its technology.
Leong reiterated that nChain’s products focus on the user experience, not the underlying technology, “and that’s the key to our success.”
ComplexCon Hong Kong was the first major event where nChain’s app was used, and its success has inspired the London company to continue developing similar products, Leong said. This includes expanding the app’s capabilities to encompass gaming and social media, which are popular with the young crowd at such events.
