The sluggish sales for Coachella 2024 continue—although week one general admission tickets are finally sold out. It is the slowest sales in ten years for the Indio-based arts and music festival.

Those interested in attending Coachella can choose from limited VIP weekend 1 passes, or general admission passes for weekend 2. In previous years, tickets for both weekends often sold out within an hour of going on sale. In 2015 when AC/DC, Jack White, and Drake were slated as headliners, the festival sold out within forty minutes. In 2022, headliners were Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, and Kanye West—who was eventually replaced by Swedish House Mafia. But those tickets sold out within four hours.

Coachella tickets are available in three tiers on the main website: tier 1 for $499, tier 2 for $549, and tier 3 for $599—not including fees. The high ticket price for the festival may be leading people to reconsider whether they want to attend this year. The Coachella lineup for 2024 includes Lana Del Rey, Tyler, the Creator, and Doja Cat, with a teased No Doubt special reunion.

It’s also worth noting that last year’s Frank Ocean performance may have put a bad taste in long-time Coachella fans’ mouths. The set was supposed to feature an ice skating rink that was changed at the last moment—leading to a head-scratching performance that left many asking, ‘wtf?’ It doesn’t help that the set started more than an hour late and ended twenty minutes early.

This year’s headliners are relatively safe in that Lana Del Rey and Doja Cat are freshly touring, while Tyler, the Creator revived Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in 2023 for the first time since before the pandemic. In other words—safe bets that these headliners will show up relatively on time and perform their sets as contracted.

Around 125,000 people usually attend Coachella across both weekends, so it will be interesting to see how 2024 compares to past attendance with such sluggish ticket sales.
