Dick Wolf’s characters on Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med are intertwined on a variety of levels, including siblings, marriages and failed romances.

Fans got a taste for the crossover connections within the One Chicago universe early on with Chicago Fire’s Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund) and Chicago P.D.’s Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda). The fictional sister and brother duo first appeared on screen together during season 1 of Fire, which debuted in 2012.

Fans met another sibling duo with Chicago P.D.’s Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Chicago Med’s Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss). However, the crossovers between shows isn’t all about siblings: Chicago Fire’s Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) dated a Chicago P.D. and a Chicago Med character before finding love on his own series.

Gabby Dawson and Antonio Dawson

Fans were introduced to both Gabby (Raymund) and Antonio (Seda) on Chicago Fire. Paramedic-turned-firefighter Gabby was a main character on Fire for six seasons before her 2018 exit. Her TV brother, for his part, had multiple appearances on Fire before becoming a lead character on Chicago P.D. from 2014 to 2019. He was also a fixture on Chicago Justice, which lasted one season.

Jay Halstead and Will Halstead

The Halstead brothers frequently crossed paths on Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med. Jay (Soffer) was part of P.D.’s Intelligence Unit since the show’s 2014 premiere. Viewers were later introduced to his sibling Will (Gehlfuss) on Med, which premiered in 2015. Soffer announced his exit from P.D. in August 2022, while Gehlfuss’ final Med episode was in May 2023.

April Sexton and Noah Sexton

This fictional sibling duo had the rare opportunity to star on the same series. April (Yaya DaCosta) was a staple on Chicago Med from 2015 to 2021. Her brother, Noah (Roland Buck III), made his first appearance during season 1 of the show. He later joined the hospital as a resident, but his time came to an end during season 6 in 2021 after allowing a patient to take their own life.

Randall ‘Mouch’ McHolland and Trudy Platt

These two beloved characters are related by marriage. Firefighter Mouch (Christian Stolte) has been part of Truck 81 on Chicago Fire since the show’s start, while Detective Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) has been running the front desk on Chicago P.D. since its premiere. The couple’s paths didn’t cross until season 2 of Fire when they both attended Chief Boden’s (Eamonn Walker) wedding. They tied the knot two seasons later during 2016’s “On the Warpath” episode.

Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton

Jay (Soffer) has a history of dating his Chicago P.D. partners, including his longtime romance with Sophia Bush’s Erin Lindsay ahead of her season 4 exit in 2017. While Jay was single for a while after the split, he later fell for Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), who joined the series at the end of season 4.

The twosome became an item during season 8, and secretly tied the knot one season later. After Soffer exited the series in 2022, Jay and Hailey’s relationship struggled onscreen. During season 11, which premiered in January 2024, Hailey revealed she signed her divorce papers. (Spiridakos, for her part, announced in late 2023 that season 11 will be her last.)

Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide

After dating multiple One Chicago ladies — many more just on Chicago Fire — Lieutenant Kelly Severide (Kinney) found his forever love in Lieutenant Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo). The duo started dating during season 6 of Chicago Fire, two seasons after Kidd transferred to Firehouse 51. Severide proposed during season 9 and despite a few wedding day setbacks, the twosome got hitched during the season 10 finale in May 2022.

Antonio Dawson and Sylvie Brett

In addition to being Gabby’s older brother, Chicago P.D.’s Antonio (Seda) was romantically linked to Chicago Fire’s Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) during season 5 of the series. The duo’s ups and downs included a pregnancy scare, meeting Antonio’s kids and Gabby’s mixed feelings about the pairing. They called it quits later that season.

Kelly Severide and Erin Lindsay

Lieutenant Severide (Kinney) has dated a lot of women on Chicago Fire, many of which were only featured on his show. His crossover romances, however, are equally as noteworthy, including his hookup with Chicago P.D.’s Detective Erin Lindsay (Bush). The duo were briefly an item during seasons 2 and 3 of Fire before their fling crossed over on season 1 of P.D. While Severide is still a lead character on Fire, Bush exited the police drama in 2017 after four seasons.

Kelly Severide and April Sexton

During season 3 of Chicago Fire, fans were introduced to April (DaCosta) as a childhood friend and love interest of Severide (Kinney). The chemistry between the two was undeniable, but they only kissed before deciding they were better as friends. April later found her footing as part of the medical team on Chicago Med from 2015 to 2021.

Kelly Severide and Anna Turner

Chicago Fire’s lead daredevil Kelly Severide (Kinney) fell for Dr. Anna Turner (Charlotte Sullivan), who worked at Chicago Med but was never technically on the medical drama. Her work as a pediatric doctor was talked about, however, on Fire during season 5. The couple were together until Anna died of leukemia after Severide had donated bone marrow in hopes of saving her life.

Matt Casey and Sylvie Brett

Captain Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) romanced Gabby (Raymund) during the early seasons of Chicago Fire. Once that relationship ended, Casey started seeing paramedic Sylvie Brett (Kilmer) toward the end of season 9. While Spencer exited Fire in 2021, his character has stayed part of the show thanks to his long-distance relationship with Brett. The TV couple got engaged at the end of season 11 and are set to tie the knot during season 12 in 2024.

Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek

Chicago P.D.’s Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick Flueger) have had an on-and-off romance for years, beginning in season 1. The twosome got engaged twice during season 2, and Ruzek proposed a second time during season 7, but Burgess turned him down. The pair rekindled their romance in season 10 and officially got engaged during season 11 in 2024.
