Jan. 31 (UPI) — Workers at a South Carolina recycling center spent hours digging through the contents of a bin to find a diamond wedding ring lost by a resident.

The City of Greenville said Melanie Harper visited the Rutherford Road recycling center on Sunday and her diamond wedding band fell off her finger while she was depositing her recyclables into a bin.

Harper sent the city’s Public Works department an email saying: “I know the likelihood of finding this is slim to none. But, if the ring is found during the course of processing the recycling, I would be most appreciative if someone could contact me.”

Public Works employees decided when they arrived Monday to dump the bin on the ground and sort through its contents to try to find Harper’s ring.

“After hours of searching, Travis Golden struck gold. White gold,” the city said.

Harper was summoned to the center where she was reunited with her ring.
