Aaron Gordon was nearly unstoppable on Sunday as the Denver Nuggets beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 115-107 in Game 4 to even the series.
Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert knows that performances like Gordon’s happen from time to time, and he understands there’s not much you can do when an opponent is hitting everything, even as a four-time Defensive Player of the Year.
“A lot of them were contested so if Gordon turns into Kobe Bryant, we just got to live with that,” Gobert said, per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
Gordon notched 27 points on 11-of-12 shooting from the field, and he wasn’t just hitting open shots. The Timberwolves defended him well, but everything was falling and it led to a win that may have saved Denver’s season.
Gordon also picked up seven boards, six assists and two blocks to go along with his outstanding offensive performance.
Three-time MVP Nikola Jokić spoke glowingly of Gordon after the win, calling him “the best player” on Sunday and saying the Nuggets can’t win a championship without him, per ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk.
Denver will need more performances like Sunday’s from Gordon as it looks to get past a tough Timberwolves team that nearly overcame a 64-49 halftime deficit and make things interesting down the stretch.
