Scottie Scheffler has had a dominant run thus far in 2024.
Wins at Bay Hill, TPC Sawgrass, Augusta National, and most recently, the RBC Heritage at Harbour Golf Town Links have cemented his position as the top player in the world by a landslide. The separation between him and Rory McIlroy, the second-ranked player in the Official World Golf Rankings, is greater than the distance between McIlroy and Tiger Woods, the 788th player in the world right now.
Scheffler is in a league of his own, relying on exquisite play from tee to green that we have not seen since Woods dominated the mid-2000s.
His winnings so far this season emphasize this point, too.
So far in 2024, Scheffler has earned $18,693,235. That massive figure likely would not be as high without the elevated purses given at the newly established Signature Events, in which Scheffler has won two this season. However, The Masters and The Players Championship typically have the largest purses of any event throughout the year, and Scheffler won both of those, too.
As such, Scheffler has competed in 10 events this season, nine of which he has finished in the top 10. Thus, his earnings per start total $1,869,323.50.
That figure is more than what the winner receives in 22 PGA Tour events. Only the four majors, the eight Signature Events, and the three tournaments that make up the FedEx Cup Playoffs award larger paydays to the winners.
To break it down further, Scheffler has earned $479,313.72 per round this season.
He has played 39 competitive rounds in 2024—it would have been 40 if not for the weather shortening the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am to 54 holes. Still, Scheffler has shot par or better each time, with 30 of those rounds coming in the 60s.
But consider this: according to CNBC, the American median household income was $48,060 in 2023. Scheffler has made 10 times that figure every time he has teed it up this year. He also has made $26,628.54 on each hole, an incredible figure that adds up quickly.
