UK-based energy giant Shell has awarded Australian engineering company Worley a contract under which the latter will provide detailed design, procurement and construction management support services for the delivery of the Holland Hydrogen 1 (HH1) facility in the Port of Rotterdam.

The services include the integration of associated assets such as offshore wind, pipelines, electrical grids and the refinery, Worley revealed, adding that they will be delivered through the company’s offices in the Netherlands, with support from its Global Integrated Delivery (GID) teams in India.
The contract follows Worley’s completion of the early phase engineering services for this facility.
”We are pleased to continue partnering with Shell to support its journey to net-zero emissions by 2050, which is consistent with our own purpose of delivering a more sustainable world,” Chris Ashton, CEO of Worley, said.

Once complete, the Holland Hydrogen 1 facility will be one of the largest commercial green hydrogen production facilities in the world.
It is expected to produce approximately 60,000 kg of renewable hydrogen per day, which will initially be used to decarbonize Shell’s nearby refinery in Pernis and support the industrial use of hydrogen in the heavy transportation industry.
Subsidiaries of Shell have taken the final investment decision (FID) to build Holland Hydrogen I back in the summer of 2022.
“Holland Hydrogen I demonstrates how new energy solutions can work together to meet society’s need for cleaner energy.” Anna Mascolo, Executive Vice President, Emerging Energy Solutions at Shell, noted at the time.
