As Pride 2023 comes to a close, SOHH sheds light on the recent years notable straight male rappers have emerged as allies to the LGBTQ+ community, challenging stereotypes and promoting inclusivity:
The Brooklyn icon publicly supported the LGBTQ+ community after his mother came out as a lesbian. His song “Smile” on the 4:44 album featured a spoken word poem by his mother, Gloria Carter, recounting her living experience in the closet. This intimate revelation further solidified Jay-Z’s allyship.
A$AP has also shown support for LGBTQ+ artists and individuals. He commended Frank Ocean and NBA center Jason Collins for their coming-out moments. Frank Ocean publicly identified as bisexual in 2012, while Jason Collins became the first active male athlete in major American professional sports to come out as gay in 2013.
The Harlem native acknowledged their courage and stated his respect for those who are authentic about their identities.
Known for his controversial past remarks has evolved in his stance towards the LGBTQ+ community. In a 2010 interview with The Guardian, he supported gay marriage, stating that everyone should have the chance to be “equally miserable.”
While Eminem faced criticism earlier in his career for homophobic slurs in his lyrics, his more recent remarks signify a shift in his perspective.
The “Strike” rapper has been vocal about embracing diversity and self-love. The cover art of his 2017 album Teenage Emotions prominently featured a gay couple kissing, symbolizing inclusivity.
He encouraged listeners to embrace themselves, regardless of their sexual orientation or other personal characteristics.

The New Orleans rapper has expressed his support for the LGBTQ+ community. When Jason Collins came out as gay, Lil Wayne acknowledged its positive impact on opening doors and showcasing a fairer world.
Additionally, he officiated a wedding between two male inmates while in prison, demonstrating his support for same-sex relationships.
