New information about the Tank Mini 1 has just been released: it is a compact rugged smartphone manufactured by Unihertz, known for its compact smartphones. The smartphone is scheduled to go on sale on January 25 at a starting price of $200. This is a direct import, which means, among other things, longer delivery times.
The smartphone is equipped with a 4.3-inch screen with a resolution of 540 x 1,200, which should be able to withstand damage from drops, dust or splash water. It is advertised with IP68 and IP69K certifications, which are quite typical for such devices.
The Helio G99 from MediaTek is an SoC that is likely to provide sufficient performance for most everyday applications. The LPDDR4x memory measures 12 GB, which is a decent size, and the internal UFS 2.2 memory is 256 GB. NFC and a GNSS module with GPS, Glonass, Galileo and Beidou are also included, as is a second SIM card slot, allowing the model to be used on two mobile networks and with different numbers.
A classic jack connection is also installed, and the OmniVision main camera has a resolution of 100 MP. An IR blaster, an infrared rangefinder and a large flashlight are also included. There is also a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and two configurable physical buttons.
Possible alternatives: Buy the Doogee S110 or Blackview BV9300 at Amazon.

I have been active as a journalist for over 10 years, most of it in the field of technology. I worked for Tom’s Hardware and ComputerBase, among others, and have been working for Notebookcheck since 2017. My current focus is particularly on mini PCs and single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi – so in other words, compact systems with a lot of potential. In addition, I have a soft spot for all kinds of wearables, especially smartwatches. My main profession is as a laboratory engineer, which is why neither scientific contexts nor the interpretation of complex measurements are foreign to me.

Growing up in regional Australia, I first became acquainted with computers in my early teens after a broken leg from a football (soccer) match temporarily condemned me to a predominately indoor lifestyle. Soon afterwards I was building my own systems. Now I live in Germany, having moved here in 2014, where I study philosophy and anthropology. I am particularly fascinated by how computer technology has fundamentally and dramatically reshaped human culture, and how it continues to do so.
