A photo of an abandoned dog called Buddy tied up outside a rescue center has shattered hearts online.
Staff at Priest River Animal Rescue (PRAR) in Idaho found the border collie mix tied to the donation shed. They shared an upsetting image of the dog on Facebook on May 20, which has since received over 325 likes.
Barbara Grover, the president of the board of directors and volunteers, spoke to Newsweek about the upsetting story. She said: “Physically, he was healthy, but emotionally he was frightened and confused, which made him snarl and growl at us.”
Buddy was found tied to a post and staff were unable to go near him as he was too scared.

Buddy is settling into the shelter but is hoping to find a loving home after being surrendered by his previous owners. Grover explained that the dog would best suit an active family who can provide plenty of attention—both physically and mentally.
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), border collies are affectionate and have extremely high energy levels.
“He is an active, friendly dog who loves to play fetch and is good with children,” she said.
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, approximately 3.1 million dogs and 3.2 million cats enter shelters across the U.S. every year. Of those, around two million dogs and 2.1 million cats are adopted.
An extract from the shelter’s Facebook status says: “THIS IS NOT OK!!” Grover explained that it is “highly concerning” when pets aren’t given up correctly and left outside like Buddy.

She told Newsweek: “When an animal is not surrendered properly, it showcases a lack of respect for the shelter staff who are dedicated to the well-being of all animals in their care.
“The added burden this places on the shelter staff, who are already diligently caring for numerous animals each day, is truly unfair and potentially dangerous.
“In instances like this, where a proper surrender process is not followed, it not only creates chaos and risk, but also demonstrates a disregard for the safety and well-being of the animal in question. As a small facility with limited resources, such irresponsible actions can have a significant impact.”
