US Marine Killed in Camp Lejeune ‘Homicide’

A Marine has been arrested on suspicion of killing another soldier at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina on Wednesday night.

Military authorities arrested the Marine at about 10:15 p.m. after an alleged attack in a barracks room, a statement from Camp Lejeune said.

It said the death was a homicide and that one suspect has been arrested.

Camp Lejeune is about 240 square miles (621 square kilometers) and is home to the II Marine Expeditionary Force. Its beaches and ranges provide training in amphibious assaults and urban warfare and it is used both for U.S. Marine training and for exercises involving other military forces from around the world.

The base said further details will be provided as they become available.

The death came two days before the base was scheduled to conduct annual training known as Exercise Urgent Response, designed “to develop and exercise emergency security procedures,” according to a press release.

In 2021, a Marine was accidentally shot and wounded in the barracks.

In July of this year, three Marine lance corporals died of carbon monoxide poisoning at a gas station about 30 miles southwest of the base, authorities said.

This is a developing story and will be later updated.
