The Warhammer 40k Dark Angels Combat Patrol was revealed after the Codex was announced, and now we have rules for the small points game mode!
The Dark Angels have been getting their Deathwing Assault Boxes and Codex Supplements worldwide, with the new Dark Angels Combat Patrol hitting Warhammer stores soon. These boxes are a great way to start Warhammer 40k or begin a new army, and with the new game mode of the same name, that’s easier than ever! Now that we finally got some of the rules for the new and revamped Dark Angels Combat Patrol, we know what to expect from the First Legion in the small points mode.
Warhammer 40k Dark Angels Combat Patrol Rules – The Vengeful Brethren
Before we look at the rules, let’s see what’s in the new Combat Patrol:
A Captain in Gravis Armour
10 Intercessors
5 Hellblasters
3 Bladeguard Veterans
While this means that the Gravis Captain called Master Zacharial won’t be able to join any of the squads in Combat Patrol, the box still seems interesting (and even strong based on the rules revealed.)
With Oath of Moment being each Space Marine Chapter’s (or Legion’s (?) in this case) Army Rule, the showcased Enhancement makes Master Zacharial a true threat: Determined Combatant gives Sustained Hits 1 for each of his weapons if he’s near an Objective Marker, and with the hit re-roll from Oath, you can fish for those 6’s for extra Hits. While in ranged he’s not that big of a threat due to only having a bolter, his chainsword can do some damage.
Both secondary objectives have been revealed for the Dark Angels Combat Patrol box as well. The first one is called Hunters of Heretics, which gives you 5 VP if you kill an enemy character, and an extra 5 if you kill them all by the end of the game.
Take the Stronghold on the other hand let’s your opponent choose an Objective that’s not in their deployment zone, and you get 5 VP each turn that you control it. These Secondaries are fairly easy to achieve, which makes the Vengeful Brethren a great scoring force in Combat Patrol.
One of the Stratagems have been revealed as well called Unyielding. For 1CP, you can give Fight on Death in melee to a unit of your choice on a 4+, or a 3+ if you target a Bladeguard Veteran Squad with this strat. If the Hellblasters keep their Shoot on Death ability that they have in regular 40k, the Dark Angels could be a force that’s lethal even if you manage to take them down.
This is not all of the Dark Angels Combat Patrol rules, but all of those will be soon available to download on the official site. Check back to ESTNN if you want more information about the upcoming kits in Warhammer 40k!
