The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is now touted to debut next month. The flagship phone looks set to stake a claim to being the best camera smartphone on the market with a Xiaomi executive hyping up its credentials, and a leak revealing its powerful camera hardware.
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra appears closer to launch than initially reported. While earlier leaks claimed the flagship phone would launch in March, it now looks all but certain that the device will debut in February instead, with company President Lu Weibing seemingly teasing its imminent launch.
“I plan to change to a mobile phone with very, very, very strong imaging capabilities in the near future for taking pictures,” the Xiaomi executive shared on Weibo a few hours ago. While there’s a chance the post refers to an upcoming Redmi device—Lu Weibing is Redmi General Manager after all—there are no premium Redmi smartphones billed to launch shortly. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is the more logical answer.
Some of the camera features of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra have been revealed previously. Supposedly, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra will come equipped with a quad-50 MP camera setup featuring a 1-inch Sony LYT900 as its main camera, the LYT600 as its ultra-wide-angle camera, an IMX858 paired with a 3.5x zoom lens, and another IMX858 beneath a 5x periscope lens.
Xiaomi’s line-leading flagship phone is expected to make its debut next month, likely alongside the Xiaomi Pad 7 series. Reportedly, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra will make an appearance at MWC, with the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro in tow. Unlike the latter two, however, availability is expected to take a while, and it’s possible the flagship doesn’t go on sale till later in March.
