Monday’s contest between the New York Yankees and Miami Marlins will be delayed due to the total solar eclipse, the Yankees announced Thursday.

The game, originally set to be played at 2:05 p.m. ET, will be pushed back four hours. New York announced that the gates at Yankee Stadium will open at 3 p.m. and the first 15,000 fans in attendance will receive a Yankees Solar Eclipse T-Shirt.

“After reconsidering the challenges of playing through Monday’s solar eclipse, including potential in-game delays, Major League Baseball and the Yankees have rescheduled the start time of the Yankees-Marlins game on April 8 at Yankee Stadium from 2:05 p.m. to 6:05 p.m.,” the team said in a statement Thursday.

The eclipse will be visible in New York City starting at 2:10 p.m. ET Monday, though it will be seen as a partial solar eclipse from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx due to the path of totality. Several cities across New York are within the path of totality.

Several teams around MLB will be within the path of totality, with the Texas Rangers hosting the Houston Astros and the Cleveland Guardians hosting the Chicago White Sox, though both of those games are scheduled after the eclipse.

The Yankees will look to continue their hot start as they host the Marlins on Monday. New York is 6-1 and will take on the Toronto Blue Jays in a three-game home series this weekend. After facing the Blue Jays, the Yankees will stay home for a three-game series with the Marlins.

Miami is having a much different start, still searching for its first win through eight games. Marlins star Jazz Chisholm Jr. blamed some of Miami’s early struggles on field shadows below the open roof at LoanDepot Park, so it’s probably better the Marlins stay off the field during the eclipse.
