A Bunch of Quaker Oats Products Were Just Recalled Due to Salmonella Concerns

Your breakfast routine might have hit a roadblock. Just under a month after Quaker Oats first recalled some products due to salmonella concerns, the company issued a new, expanded warning—this one including a whole bunch of additional items, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

On January 11, the Quaker Oats Company announced a voluntary nationwide recall of several more types of products due to potential salmonella contamination. Some of the items include Quaker Chewy granola bars; Cap’n Crunch Treat cereal bars; Quaker Oatmeal Squares cereal; Cap’n Crunch instant oatmeal; Gatorade protein bars; and Munchies snack mix.

You can check out the complete list of products for more specifics, including the exact flavors that were recalled, pictures of the packaging, the UPCs of the affected items, and “best before” dates to determine whether any of your recent purchases are included in the warning. For a quicker route: You can also scan the SmartLabel QR code on the package to see if it was recalled.

Food contaminated with salmonella may still look, taste, and smell normal, but don’t let that deceive you—it’s important to throw any items listed in the recall in the trash ASAP.

You’ll want to take this seriously because salmonella is no joke. The bacteria causes more than a million infections, 26,500 hospitalizations, and hundreds of deaths in the US every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

That’s why it’s important to recognize the symptoms of salmonella. These include diarrhea (that is sometimes bloody), fever, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and headache, and they can start anytime from six hours to six days after exposure. If you have a temp higher than 102 degrees Fahrenheight or feel super sick, call your doc to get checked out.

If you have any other questions about the recall or would like to request reimbursement for your affected items, you can reach Quaker Consumer Relations at 1-800-492-9322 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
