According to Stefan Vazharov, our senior technology editor, Apple’s second-generation AirPods Pro are the best wireless earbuds for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch users, delivering excellent sound quality and immersive audio with dynamic head tracking. They also offer some of the best noise cancelation, even beating out some over-ear cans.
“During my testing, the buds produced almost complete silence—an expression I have reserved for just a few sets of noise-canceling headphones and earbuds over the years,” Vazharov says in his review of the Lightning-compatible version.
The AirPods Pro 2 also supports an Adaptive Audio feature, allowing the earbuds to automatically switch between noise cancelation and transparency mode. They can even adjust the volume automatically depending on the level of ambient noise, providing users with a seamless, hands-off experience that lets them focus on their music.
Additionally, the USB-C case that houses the AirPods Pro 2 features an improved IP54 rating for dust- and water-resistance (and extra peace of mind). The wireless earbuds also support Lossless Audio when paired with the upcoming “mixed reality” Vision Pro headset.
The switch away from Apple’s Lightning connector to USB-C means users can charge the AirPods Pro 2 using the same cable that comes with the iPhone 15 (and that they probably also have multiple spares of laying around). In fact, the cord is compatible with multiple Apple devices, including the latest versions of the iPad Pro, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro. The ubiquity of USB-C allows users to travel lighter, given they need only a single cable to charge various devices.
